Quick Kalbi Tri-Tip Steak
Having a hankering for one of his favorite dishes, Tyler Navarro, an engineer at Kodani & Associates Engineers, came up with a quick kalbi recipe. The traditional Korean kalbi uses short ribs, but Tyler uses tri tip steak. By trial and error and tinkering with ingredients, this Quick Kalbi recipe is just to his liking.
Ingredients:
4 lbs | tri tip steak |
2 cups | Yoshida sauce |
2 tbsp | fresh pepper |
8 cloves | garlic |
¼ cup | sesame seeds |
¼ cup | olive oil |
2 tbsp | liquid smoke |
4 tbsp | salt |
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients in a gallon size Ziploc bag, let marinate from 2 hours to 2 days – the longer it marinates, the better it gets
- Remove steak from bag and cook on a grill or griddle on high
- Roast the whole pieces of garlic on the grill until tender
- Flip every two minutes until evenly cooked to desired temperature
- Let rest at least 15 minutes after cooking before slicing
- Great served hot or cold, and sliced thin like an appetizer
- Garnish with fresh chopped green onion – optional
