Remain humble, work hard, and be kind.

What has being awarded the Grove Farm Scholarship meant to you?

I am indebted to the Grove Farm Foundation for the opportunities it provides me each year. The foundation's generosity inspires me to work harder and pursue any opportunity that comes my way because I know that simply being able to pursue higher education is a gift and a privilege. This scholarship serves as a reminder of the reciprocal nature of service and achievement, that is the more you achieve the more you owe to the community that's helped you.

What have you learned about yourself while you’ve been away?

I've discovered that I need and seek out others more than I ever realized. Growing up on the west side of Kauai community, the emphasis on community meant that it became ingrained in my everyday life and in me. When I moved to the mainland, I realized just how rare and special the community is and that while I pride myself on independence, I still need and love the community.

What drives you?

I'm driven by the desire to build a better future for myself and my family.

What gives you hope for the future?

The dedicated, articulate, compassionate, and bright people that I find myself surrounded with inspire me daily. These people give me hope because, despite the uncertainty of these past few years, they continue to pursue their goals.
