This week’s Grove Farm Team of the Week selection was a bit more tricky than before. We had tie-breakers settle first place for the Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls cross country as well a second place for the boys’ race, Saturday. Kauai High School girls took first place after its No. 6 runner, the tie-breaker, crossed ahead of Kapaa. Similarly, the Red Raider boys settled for second place over Kapaa after its No. 6 runner crossed ahead of the Warrior runner.
However, the nod for Grove Farm Team of the Week goes to the Island School boys air rifle team who upset the Kapaa High School boys, Wednesday at the Warriors’ range. The Warriors’ Michael Anderson finished with 263 points (94 prone, 80 standing, 89 kneeling) over the Voyagers’ Ka’ohu Ranis who ended the day 11 points behind Anderson. But with all five scoring marksmen carding over 200 points (two of the Warriors dropped to below 200), the Voyagers edged out the Warrior men, 1,174 points to 1,137 points for its first win of the KIF season. Ranis fired off 252 points (93 prone, 76 standing, and 83 kneeling) to lead Island School who got help from fellow marksmen Kaikea Kauai (228 points), Bryant Wu (242 points), Tiago Morgado (222 points), and Braden Viohl (230 points). The KIF air rifle series continues Wednesday when Island School visit the Menehune at the Kalaheo Neighborhood Center starting at 3 p.m. Kauai High School will host Kapaa in its senior match at the Kauai High School gym starting at 4:30 p.m.
