Grove Farm Team of the Week honors go to the Waimea High School girls volleyball program for its hectic week that started Tuesday when the Menehune clinched the Kauai Interscholastic Federation girls volleyball title with a win over the Island School Voyagers at the Wilcox Gymnasium.

The week didn’t end there, though as Waimea returned home for a match against Kapaa, Friday night where its seniors — Keana Silva, Kairah Alejandro, Leiko Yamauchi, and Gabrielle Peleras — were honored following the straight set victory over the Warriors.

On the junior varsity court, the JV Menehune finished an undefeated season with a straight set win over the JV Warriors. To conclude its final game of the season, Coach Brandi Hori-Moises called on Shyann Freitas, recovering from an accident which cost her a foot, to close the set against a backdrop of cheering varsity players, parents, friends, and cheerleaders.

With the KIF title in hand, the Menehune prepare for the New City Nissan Hawaii High School Athletic Association girls volleyball Division II competition that will take place on Oahu, Oct. 24-27.
